About the journal

Science Journal «Magarach». Viticulture and Enology»

"The Crimea’s Herald of Horticulture and Enology", a branch-wise periodical founded in 1874 in the Crimea which is the birthplace of Russia’s science of vine and wine, was the predecessor of the modern science journal, "Magarach". Viticulture and Enology", known under this name since 1997. Previously, in different times, the titles of the latter were «Bulletin of the Branch-wise Research Center for Grape Production and Processing» and «Viticulture and Enology of the USSR».

 

Subject Area

The subject area of the Journal covers actual problems of grape and wine growing, storage and processing of crop products as well as economics and marketing, including: genetics, breeding and nursery science; farming technique, growing of biologically clean products; plant protection; microbiology of winemaking; technology for production of still wines, sparklings and brandy; chemistry and biochemistry of winemaking; analytical research and innovation technologies. The Journal also reports about events the Institute’s academic life and memorable dates of the grape and wine world.

Information about the Chief Editor

Anatolii Mkanovich Avidzba is Director of the Government-Financed Establishment of the Republic of the Crimea “National Research Institute for Vine and Wine “Magarach”, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine.

А. М. Avidzba is a prominent scientist whose research concentrates on grape and wine economics, production organization and control. He concerns himself with development of technological and economical systems enabling high efficiency of the grape and wine industry as well as with improvement of labor relations. He is in charge of scientific and technical projects of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of the Crimea and a grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, aiming at the solution of fundamental and applied problems, such as improvement of grape production and processing technology, development of novel functional foods, adaptation of technologies of the grape and wine industry to economical laws of the market, and control of efficiency factors. He is author of more than 300 research, educational and methodological publications, including two monographs and six patents and Author’s Certificates.

А. М. Avidzba is a member of the editorial boards of the science journal “Magarach”. Agheieva N. M. is a famous scientist whose research is concerned with grape processing technology, biotechnology, biochemistry and microbiology of wine. She is the founder of a scientific school concentrating on the stablilization of vintage products againsts clouds of different origin and the development of new technologies for wine stabilization. She is head and chief executor of scientific and technical projects and grants of the Academy of Agriculture of Russia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and the Krasnodar and the Russian Foundation of Fundamental Research aiming at the solution of fundamental and applied scientific problems relating to the quality and safety of vintage products.

Agheieva N. M. is author of more than 700 research publications, including 20 monographs as well as 98 patents and Author’s Certificates, 26 of which are used commercially. She has supervised over 26 Candidate and 2 Doctoral students.

Gherzhikova В.Г. is a prominent scientist whose interests are in the line of chemistry and biochemistry of grapes and wine. She concentrates her research on the development of wine maturation theory based on the investigation of regularities governing the oxidation-reduction processes that take place in the production of different types of wines, the clarification of the mechanism underlying the process of wine material stabilization, the investigation of the biochemical processes associated with grape ripening and wine formation, the development of new methods for control of technological processes and the quality of vintage products, including the determination of their stability and identification.

She has supervised over 16 Candidate and 3 Doctoral students.

She is author of more than 250 research publications and editor of the book "Technochemical Control in Winemaking" (2009).

Guguchkina T. I. is a prominent scientist focusing her research on the biochemistry, technology and agroecology of wine. She has developed a new methodological approach to the quality formation and ecological safety of vintage products, and laid the theoretical foundations of technology for production of grape juices and wines free from pesticide residues. She has been in charge of developing a set of new instrumental methods to detect components of vintage products associated with their authenticity and safety. Guguchkina T. I. is head of an accredited testing laboratory and a certification body registered in the Register of the Customs Union and dealing with most important problems of the quality and safety of foods and spirits.

She is author of more than 500 research publications, including more than 20 monographs, 35 Author’s Certificates and patents, of which 10 are used commercially.

She is the founder of a scientific school concentrating on agroecotechnology of quality winemaking. She has supervised over 8 post-graduate students.

His research is concerned with the improvement of technology to produce still, champagne-type and sparkling wine materials and brandies, including wines with protected geographical indications and appellations of origin; a proportion of his research deals with the biological amd nutrient value of grape wines, their use in sanatorium-and-spa treatment of patients with cardio-vascular and other diseases, as well as with the elaboration of legislative and normative documents.

He is author of more than 130 research publications and 20 patents.

Information about the Publisher

The publishing activities of the Government-Financed Establishment of the Republic of the Crimea “National Research Institute for Vine and Wine “Magarach” began in 1947 when the first issue of its materials was published.

At present, the Editing and Publishing Department of the Institute prepares, edits and makes layouts of the quarterly science journal “Magarach”. Viticulture and Enoloogy” and the annual collected papers «Viticulture and Enology». Besides, the Institute publishes books, methodological recommendations, catalogues, booklets and folders, programs and proceedings of scientific conferences, etc. Limited editions are also produced.
